YouTube Gamer and star MatPat reveals details of Markiplier’s cut Five Nights at Freddy’s cameo after the iconic gamer had to depart the project.
After having helped popularize its source material, Markiplier’s cut Five Nights at Freddy’s cameo details have been revealed by fellow YouTube gamer and movie star MatPat. An adaptation of Scott Cawthon’s horror video game franchise about possessed murderous animatronics has been in the works for nearly a decade, having finally made its way to the screen with the creator onboard as a co-writer and producer and Blumhouse financing the project. Though garnering negative reviews from critics, Five Nights at Freddy’s is already a box office hit in its opening weekend with an impressive 89% approval rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
Fresh off the movie’s release, MatPat took to his YouTube account The Film Theorists to open up about his cameo in Five Nights at Freddy’s. While reflecting on the costume process of the production, the YouTube gamer revealed that there was a costume made up for fellow internet personality Markiplier to appear in the movie, confirming that he was supposed to play the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza security guard killed in its opening sequence before he had to depart due to scheduling conflicts. See what MatPat shared in the quote and video below:
It was actually there that I got to see who else was gonna be a part of this movie up on the wall. That’s where I actually learned that Cory was gonna be a cab driver for the first time. It was also where I saw that good old Markiplier was supposed to be the security guard who gets killed at the very beginning of the movie.
Markiplier Would Be A Major Selling Point For Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
Mark Fishcbach, better known by his online name of Markiplier, is one of the biggest names in YouTube gaming, especially in regard to the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise. Ever since the 2014 original game, Markiplier has uploaded Let’s Play videos for every subsequent installment, with the original garnering over 113 million views at the time of writing and popularizing both Cawthon’s game itself, as well as other YouTube gamers playing horror-based games on camera to display their hilariously over-the-top reactions.

Before the movie release, Markiplier did confirm that he was approached by the Five Nights at Freddy’s team to make an appearance, though his character details weren’t known until MatPat’s above comments. Markiplier attributed this to a scheduling conflict making his own feature directorial and acting debut with Iron Lung, an adaptation of the horror game of the same name, whose production remains on hiatus due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
While he may not have been able to make a cameo in Five Nights at Freddy’s, Markiplier’s involvement in the potential sequel would prove to be a major selling point for fans of the game franchise. This dedicated fanbase has already proven to be powerful enough for the movie to overcome its negative reviews for a successful box office opening weekend, estimated to bring in over $78 million at the time of writing, setting multiple records and securing future chances. With Markiplier himself keen to expand into more traditional entertainment like filmmaking, a Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 could even make his inclusion more than a gimmick by finding a proper supporting role for him to play and further draw in the masses.
