The newest trailer for Godzilla Minus One has been released, showcasing more of the iconic monster’s latest rampage through postwar Japan.
The newest trailer for Toho’s Godzilla Minus One has been released. Directed by Takashi Yamazaki, the upcoming movie will bring the titular monster back to Japan, sometime after World War II. It is the first Toho Godzilla movie to be released since 2018, and it will make its United States debut in December.
Now, Toho’s official Godzilla account has released the newest trailer for Godzilla Minus One. Beginning with a mysterious shipwreck, the trailer first introduces the kaiju beast as a gargantuan, water-traveling beast.
Godzilla Minus One goes on to establish this figure as “an unknown organism,” as citizens try to reckon with what could possibly be destroying their city to this extent. The final moments show Godzilla’s scales growing blue, seemingly charging an attack, but it doesn’t look like the creature’s famous atomic breath.
Godzilla Minus One Will Deliver On Toho’s Bold Promises
This look at Godzilla Minus One shows Japan in an utter state of disarray as a result of the monster’s actions. Within seconds, Godzilla bursts through skyscrapers, creating masses of debris in its wake. In other shots, he even stalks seafaring citizens as his spiny back protrudes from the water.
In the publicity campaign for Godzilla Minus One, Toho has regularly cited how the film will diverge from recent Hollywood depictions of the Monsterverse. Since the studio began making Godzilla movies in 1954, it has prided themselves on making them distinct from the more sanitized versions that Hollywood produces. In advance of Godzilla Minus One, Toho has regularly stated that the monster would go back to its malicious, obliterating ways in this adaptation.
Based on first-look images and now the trailer, it seems that the movie will deliver on this promise. In previous images and posters for Godzilla Minus One, Godzilla levels cities with his feet and bears his sharp teeth domineeringly. Similarly, there is nothing sympathetic about the kaiju monster in the Godzilla Minus One trailer. Rather, it sees the monster divaricating the city beyond repair, suggesting that Godzilla Minus One will deliver on its bold promises.
