Michael Fassbender plays the title role in the trailer for the upcoming movie The Killer, which shows the assassin losing control of his regimented life. The action thriller is directed by David Fincher, who’s no stranger to the genre thanks to his work on films like Gone Girl and Se7en. In addition to Fassbender, The Killer stars Tilda Swinton, Charles Parnell, Arliss Howard, and Sophie Charlotte.

The trailer teases the calculating nature of Fassbender’s assassin, with the character repeating the phrase “stick to the plan” multiple times throughout the video. Sticking to the plan seems like it will be easier said than done, however, with his life eventually starting to spiral out of control.
What The Killer Trailer Reveals About The Movie
Living the life of an assassin clearly involves remaining emotionally detached and sticking to a fixed set of rules. The Killer trailer shows that this is a lifestyle that Fassbender’s character has been living for quite some time, and it’s seemingly been serving him well career-wise. According to the movie’s official synopsis, though, a fateful near-miss on a job will eventually see Fassbender’s character battling his own employers and himself while trying to not make things personal.
The trailer shows that Fassbender’s assassin is essentially a chameleon while out in the world. One job seemingly requires him to wear a worker’s disguise, while his casual clothing choices usually ensure he doesn’t stick out in a crowd. The bucket hat and sunglasses seems to be a favorite combo for the assassin, presumably because it is effective at hiding his features and making him largely invisible to those around him.
Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t reveal much about how The Killer‘s other cast members will fit into the story. Swinton appears very briefly, but it’s not clear whether she will be a friend or an ally. Considering the Killer’s lifestyle choices and assassin mantra, it seems likely that friendship is not a concept he sees much value in.
