A trailer for The Book of Clarence previews the upcoming Biblical epic from The Harder They Fall director Jeymes Samuel. The film centers on Clarence (Atlanta‘s LaKeith Stanfield), a Jerusalemite man who finds himself intrigued by the influence of Jesus and ultimately becomes a Messiah for his own personal gain. But, ultimately, his journey leads him into an unexpected exploration of faith.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has now released the official teaser trailer for The Book of Clarence, which will make its theatrical debut on January 12, 2024.

The preview offers a look at how Clarence tries to become one of the Messiah’s 12 apostles, as he’s fascinated by their status. It also highlights the impressive cast of The Book of Clarence, which includes some very familiar faces.
What To Know About The Book of Clarence
The official summary for The Book of Clarence describes the film as “a bold new take on the timeless Biblical-era epic.” As for Clarence, he’s described as streetwise but down on his luck. He struggles to find a better life for his family while trying to free himself of debt. Drawn to the story of the Messiah and His apostles, Clarence risks everything to carve his own path to a divine life.
Along with Stanfield, who received an Oscar nomination for his role in Judas and the Black Messiah, The Book of Clarence cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Omar Sy, Anna Diop, David Oyelowo, Alfre Woodard, James McAvoy, and Teyana Taylor. RJ Cyler, who previously worked with Samuels and Stanfield on The Harder They Fall, also stars.
Samuel also wrote The Book of Clarence, in addition to directing. The film, which features music from producer Jay-Z, looks to be an intriguing follow-up for the filmmaker who delivered a mesmerizingly cool and effective Western thriller. For the start of the new year, Samuel looks to do the same with a subversive and relatable epic.
